Investment in Kurdistan Tops 13 billion dollar

Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Barham Salih, visited major investment projects that are underway in Sulaymaniyah, the most populous city in the region.

At a foundation stone-laying ceremony for Majidi Mall, a major retail building project, prime minister Salih said that direct investment in the Kurdistan Region has surpassed US$13bn.

Investment won’t stop there: “The Kurdistan Regional Government will continue to support investment projects and other private sector initiatives,” he said.

Mr Ahmed Majidi, the owner of the Majidi Mall development and Chairman of Hewa Group, said: “Today a new opportunity has been created for investment that will serve the people of Kurdistan.” He said that after building the first Majidi Mall in the city of Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan, his company’s decision to develop another one in Sulaymaniyah would help to boost economic growth. He added that the group plans to make more investments in other parts of the region and Iraq.

During his visit the prime minister toured the site of Sulaymaniyah University’s new campus, which is under construction. He ecnouraged the building managers and workers to complete their jobs as quickly as possible. He also toured Hawari Shar Park, which is a new tourism site in the Sulaymaniyah governorate.
