Egypt want to invest in Kurdistan

The Egyptian Ambassador to Iraq said Tuesday his country seeks investment in the Kurdistan Region’s tourism and construction sectors as well as agriculture in Iraq. egypt and kurdistan flagCiting to AKnews, Sharif Shahin said his country eyes contracting for construction of roads, tunnels, and housing projects.

Egypt also hopes to exercise its “expertise” in tourism for the Region. Some Egyptian companies are already investing in oil, energy and housing across Iraq and seek to obtain approval for agriculture sector, too; as for the Region some Egyptian contractors are engaged in formal procedures to get the work license.

Early November the Egyptian consul took office in Erbil, the Kurdistan Region’s capital. Though the office has not been launched officially but it raised the number of the foreign representations in the Region to 18. While the Region is reinforcing its image as a safe zone and a booming economy in the war-ravaged Iraq, more and more investors are attracted to the Region which also serves many of them as a gate for trading with the rest of the country.
