Erbil, Iraq: Electronic maker Sony inaugurated its first outlet in Erbil, amid ambitious plans to expand further into the competitive Iraqi market.

Last week, the first official Sony store in Iraq opened in the city of Erbil, more than a year after the Japanese electronic and appliances maker re-entered the Iraq and Kurdistan Region market after many years of absence.

Sony's Erbil showroom will have the brand's latest electronics on sale and will also provide a costumer care and maintenance service, according to the director of Sony in Erbil.

"We [Sony] will also expand rapidly in Iraq, including the opening of other branches in Baghdad and Basrah in the near future," said Ihsan Mohammed.

According to him, the economic development and excellent security conditions in Kurdistan Region prompted Sony to open its first showroom in Iraq in the city of Erbil.

Worth mentioning, Sony also participated in the last edition of the Erbil International Fair in October, 2011.
