German rapper to perform in Kurdistan

Friday, 02 December 2011

Roger Rekless, a German rapper, will visit the Kurdistan Region in Iraq for two concerts in Erbil and Sulaimaniyah next week. The tour is organized by the Goethe Institut, a German organization that promotes German culture across the world.

Heinrich Sobottka, director of the Goethe Institut, said he was delighted that they were able to bring Roger Rekless to Kurdistan. "It's an outstanding opportunity to show German music in Kurdistan and a great challenge to keep returnees in contact with German youth culture."

Rekless will perform in Erbil's Media Hall on December 6th,  at 7 p.m. The entrance is free. The performance in Sulaimaniyah will be the next day, December 7th. The time and location of the Sulaimaniyah performance will be announced later this week.

Rekless, who has been a musician and producer for about 15 years, has been working with the Goethe Institut before. He has been to West Africa, Australia and many other countries to give concerts.

Since he holds a master degree in education, he also gives rap workshops to children to provide them with a new approach to the German language.
