New English language Training centre at Salahaddin University in Erbil

Tuesday, 15 November 2011
The British Council, a cultural and educational charity, has opened a new training centre at Salahaddin University. The training centre will teach English language classes and help M.A. and Ph.D English language candidates who are granted scholarships in the UK.

The Council has been operating in Erbil since 2008, based in the British Consulate compound. Since August however the Council has moved to new premises in central Erbil

The British Ambassador to Iraq, His Excellency Michael Aron, said the aim behind this move out from the aegis of the U.K. mission in Erbil was to allow the people to have better access to the Council and its services.

The British Council in Erbil has helped the Kurdistan Regional Government with the running of a range of teacher education and university development programs, and also supported the rich cultural exchange between the two territories. The most notable recent examples have been the Erbil Literature Festival in May this year and the third summer school and concert of the National Youth Orchestra in Iraq in September.
