The Minister of Transport and Communications in the Kurdistan Regional Government has Announces the establishment of a railways across the cities of Kurdistan.

The minister said that it was always a dream of the people of Kurdistan to extend rail lines to link the cities of the region with each other . He also added that the project is one of largest projects in Iraq and Kurdistan, and approval of several companies to implement the project has been obtained.

The project is submitted to the Council of Ministers of the Kurdistan Region to obtain the necessary permits to launch the project. The minister says the project will take several years  to be finished, and the hope to start in 2011.

The first railway line will be between Erbil and Slemani and Erbil and Duhok. There also will be a railway line between Erbil and the borders of Iran and Turkey.
