Erbil don't wait for Google and creates its own Street View

Sunday, 09 January 2011

While Google waits and hesitates to implement its known service Street View in the middle east, Erbil City don't wait and creates its own Erbil Street View, the first street view in Iraq and the middle east. Google Street View is a service provided by Google Inc., which enables the Internet user to view 360-degree panoramic pictures at street level. This service was launched on May 25, 2007, originally only in several cities in the United States, and has since gradually expanded to include more cities and rural areas worldwide.

Google Street View is not available in the middle east. In December 2010, Google revealed plans to introduce its Street View feature in the Middle East, but stated there would be additional forms of censorship not previously seen in other parts of the world out of concern for the religious and cultural beliefs of those residing in these countries, the laws of these countries, and security concerns.

Unlike other countries and cities in the region, Erbil create this ambitious project to catch up with other major cities in the world. The Service is created by Muro Graphics, a local company in Erbil.
