Erbil, Iraq – The United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) have praised the Erbil Investigation Court today in a ceremony hosted by the UN and the EU Integrated Rule of Law Mission for Iraq, with Kurdistan Region Minister of Justice Judge Rauf Rashid attending, reports AKnews.

Judge Adham Akram, head of Erbil Investigation Court told a press conference that his court "worked fairly".

"This accolade is definitely due to our constant efforts to restore the rights of the deprived," the Kurdish news agency quotes Akram as saying.   

Furthermore, according to him the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has opened an office in the Court which offers free legal advice to local citizens. The report further claims that the UNDP office in the Erbil Court will provide lawyers to those who cannot afford legal fees.

"The UNDP mission has offered legal consultancy and training for the staff of Erbil Investigation Court, installing electronic system for managing the archives in the Court as well as installing a law library," adds the report.
