The Kurdistan Regional Government announced a meeting between Nawzad Hadi, the governor of Erbil and the Iraqi Ministry of Tourism to discuss the preparations to start a new project to elect Erbil as the capital of tourism in the Arab world for the years 2014 and 2015.


The meeting discussed the strategy to start the necessary preparations for the project. The project will have a significant impact in promoting the tourism industry in Erbil, Kurdistan and Iraq at national, regional and global level. The strategy also includes the participation of the public and the private sector.

The Iraqi Ministry of Tourism is confident that Erbil can win this title, because Erbil have all the ingredients to be eligible for the title Capital city of Tourism.

The official request to select Erbil as the capital of tourism, will be raised next week to the League of Arab States in Cairo. There are serious coordination between the Federal Government and the Kurdistan Regional government to meet the contest requirement in order to win the title.
